Mobile Enterprise Systems implements M-POS solution to manage busy sandwich and snack wholesale business

Mobile Enterprise Systems has implemented their market-leading van sales system at Barnies Foods Ltd providing a fully-integrated software suite to manage the busy sandwich and snack food wholesale delivery business. The automated functions within the M-POS system have helped Barnies to remove manual processes from their business, reducing costs and improving business insight. 

Barnies Foods is a successful, family-run bakery and sandwich business in Watton, Norfolk operating nine routes across East Anglia as well as supplying baked products, snacks and sandwiches to major events and festivals across the UK.

Barnies drivers are now equipped with M3 Mobile handsets allowing them to record all van sales transactions directly into the M-POS system removing the need for paper delivery documents and eliminating manual tasks such as re-keying data and manually uploading data into Sage. The introduction of M-POS has delivered multiple benefits to Barnies, including a reduction in administration costs and, with the full sales reporting and credit control functions, all transactions are now accurate and fully auditable.

M-POS manages all credit control advising the drivers of customer credit statuses, as well as controlling and monitoring stock, returns and wastage. Customers’ buying history and detailed stock control, including the ability to track all snack and sandwich products by filling-type in the main warehouse, on customers’ sites and on the vans, informs the production department of the complete stock levels and the demand for the next day.

Another key requirement for Barnies Foods was to reduce wastage levels whilst ensuring that their customers never run out of their products. David Harding, General Manager at Barnies Foods comments; “With the implementation of the new system, we can ensure that our regular customers hold the optimum stock level for each product and our drivers can re-stock the customer to that quantity. M-POS has automated what were previously manual and labour-intensive processes resulting in significant time and cost savings and the powerful reporting functionality has provided us with far greater business insight.”

Other benefits to the van sales operation include the ability to prompt the drivers with details of special offers and promotions shown on their handheld terminals. In addition, drivers can process sales and deliveries with full stock control on delivery vans, print invoices and delivery notes (including signatures for proof of delivery), manage cash and cheque payments and use the credit control facilities to monitor all transactions.
