BelTek User Group Sees the Future!

The BelTek User Conference, held recently in Phoenix Arizona, proved to be an exciting forum for the presentation of the latest trends in mobile computing, with BelTek giving an insight into their development plans and the major hardware manufacturers outlining their product strategies.

Michel Belzile, President of BelTek, was particularly enthusiastic about advances in mobile networking; ‘With wireless networks increasing in affordability and reliability, every mobile worker can be fully supported by his organisation, no matter what the nature of his task. BelTek is taking full advantage of this progress to ensure we remain at the forefront of mobile worker support technology. In addition, we will continue to harness the power of ‘best of breed’ third party technologies, by integrating them into our applications, in a seamless, easy-to-use manner.’

Jim Hilton, Director, Industry Solutions Group of Motorola Inc., underlined Mr Belzile’s point in his presentation, which focused on the mobile computer as a sales and marketing aid to revolutionise mobile worker performance. ‘Mobile computers today are multi-function productivity tools, capturing high quality photos to aid merchandising and service delivery, showing videos in support of product promotions, providing voice activated picking to speed up product handling and a host of other technologies’ said Hilton. ‘Arming your mobile workers with efficiency and ‘impact’ tools has never been easier’.

Representing European users, Jack Sane, director of Mobile Enterprise Systems, set out his vision of the trends in mobile technology in Europe.

‘Ever-increasing fleet costs mean that it becomes more and more important for every rep and driver to be as efficient as possible. The provision of 7-day service means that drivers/reps are less familiar with their rounds, so their mobile computers must assist them at every point in their day, from initial vehicle checkout, through loading the right stock and even finding their customers by the shortest route. The BelTek system achieves all this via its thorough understanding of its user’s requirements and judicious integration of productivity tools such as Satellite Navigation.’

‘We are also finding that users of vehicle tracking systems are asking themselves whether they should be achieving more from their investment. Managers are no longer happy just knowing where their vehicles are. They now want to know what the vehicles are achieving in commercial terms as well. They are seeing that, while GPS tracking will provide vehicle statistics, the true picture of a fleet’s performance is only clear when the commercial performance of each vehicle is added to the GPS data and analysed as a package; effectively running each vehicle as a P&L cost centre.

‘BelTek is well positioned to capitalise on this trend, being the only mobile computing company to deliver the benefits of a truly integrated Vehicle Tracking component, providing total fleet performance analysis.’
