Olympics Preparation

Preparing your Business for the Olympics

On your marks...Business continuity planning

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the largest sports events in the world and offer a once-in-a-lifetime chance to showcase the UK at its best.

It is also a great opportunity for businesses of all sizes and sectors. However, like any large event, the Games will bring with them certain challenges. If your business is located near to a Games venue or a travel hotspot, you need to start planning as soon as possible to reduce any adverse impact that the Games could have on your business.

Your business faces and manages challenges every day but if you come across issues during Games time, the impact could prevent you from conducting business and affect your brand, image and reputation. You will be better prepared to respond to these challenges if you have given these factors some early consideration and have a business continuity plan in place. We can help you to plan and prepare for the Games ensuring that your mobile data system fully supports your business during this busy and hopefully hugely productive period...

Get set...System considerations

1. Do you have enough handsets and/or printers including back-up devices?
We have a wide range of loan devices and equipment that can be rented from us over the Olympic period including handheld computers, printers, in-vehicle chargers and spare batteries.

2. Do you require additional licenses for temporary staff?
Temporary user licences are available from as little as £5.00 per license, per day.

3. Do you require extended or out-of-hour support from our helpdesk?
We are able to offer support and guidance in preparation for the Games amending journey schedules and routes etc, and of course, during the Olympic period when you may be working extended hours. Multiple support packages and options are available.

4. Do your staff need training or refresher courses?
If you are employing temporary staff to help manage the increase in workload, you will need to be confident that they are able to operate your M-POS system efficiently, minimising errors and maximising sales opportunities. You may also wish to provide your regular staff with a refresher course to ensure that they are confident using all elements of the system.

5. Do you have a mobile network contingency plan?
Some mobile networks may be slowed down at peak times during the Games. Additional capacity and coverage for mobile phone networks is being put in around Games venues. We strongly recommend purchasing a number of Pay-As-You-Go sim cards on a different mobile network to ensure that you are always able to stay ‘connected’.

Go! When is Games time?

The Games commenced with the Olympic Torch Relay on 19th May 2012 and the Games will now run until 9th September 2012, when the Paralympic Games end. While the impact on businesses will be greatest during the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games themselves, there may also be some effect to your business at other times during this period.
